The Canada–Caribbean Tourism Resilience Symposium concluded this Thursday at George Brown College in Toronto. The event brought together government officials, scholars, and industry professionals to address pressing tourism challenges and discuss strategies for expanding regional cooperation. 
Over the course of the two-day event, participants examined the vital role of innovation, sustainability, and crisis preparedness in building a more resilient tourism industry.
Discussions also underscored the Caribbean’s strategic importance within the Canadian travel market, highlighting the need to advance joint initiatives that reinforce the sector's economic, social, and environmental resilience.
The symposium featured lectures, seminars, and panel discussions with representatives from Jamaica, The Bahamas, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, and Cuba.
A central highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by the Honorable Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism of Jamaica and co-founder of the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC). Another featured presentation was given by Dona Regis-Prosper, Secretary General and CEO of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), who headed the Caribbean delegation. 
Cuba was represented at the symposium by Gihana Galindo, Director of the island’s Tourism Office in Canada. Speaking to CubaPLUS, Galindo emphasized that Cuba’s participation reflects a strategic priority within the region’s evolving tourism dynamics.
Galindo noted that Cuba remains one of the top Caribbean destinations for Canadian travelers and expressed strong interest in forging partnerships with Canadian academic institutions specializing in tourism. She also reiterated Cuba's commitment to regional integration and knowledge-sharing regarding sustainability and resilience within a high-level academic and professional framework.
