The governments of Cuba and Grenada have signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) in St. George’s aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation in education.
The agreements cover special education and the implementation of the “Yo, sí puedo” (“Yes, I Can”) literacy program, as reported by the Cuban Foreign Ministry on its official website.
Cuban Ambassador Yadirys Echenique Paz signed the documents on behalf of Cuba, emphasizing that these initiatives reflect the island nation's spirit of solidarity and its commitment to human development in Grenada.
Representing the Grenadian government were the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Education, Lorraine St. Louis Nedd and Elvis Morain, who highlighted the importance of these agreements in addressing specific population needs and ensuring inclusive learning opportunities.
The officials noted that collaboration with Cuba remains a cornerstone of Grenada’s national strategy for human resource development.
During the ceremony, both parties agreed that the signing of these MOUs opens new avenues for joint projects, including teacher training and the application of educational methodologies already proven in Cuba and across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The signing of these agreements comes as both nations mark the 47th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
For decades, Cuba has contributed to education and professional training in Grenada, supporting generations of young Grenadians in their academic and professional growth.
