Caribbean Festival Concludes in Santiago de Cuba

After seven days of cultural exchanges, artistic performances, and theoretical events that explored identity and integration, the 44th edition of the Caribbean Festival concluded this Wednesday in Santiago de Cuba.

Before the start of the closing parade in Céspedes Park, the provincial government awarded the "With the Effort of All We Shall Overcome" recognition to various groups that are custodians of ancestral cultural practices, and to their leaders, for their contribution to Santiago's and national culture.

In a special gesture, researcher Orlando Vergés, leader of the Casa del Caribe and the Festival, received the "José Martí Mausoleum" Distinction from the member of the Central Committee of the Party and First Secretary in the province, Beatriz Johnson, and Governor Manuel Falcón.

Vergés merited this distinction in recognition of his work in preserving cultural identity through the promotion of cultural groups, as well as for his dedication to the effective realization of numerous editions of the Caribbean Festival.

Subsequently, dozens of representative groups from the country and the Caribbean paraded along Aguilera Street in the city's historic center towards the La Alameda maritime promenade, where "the devil burned," marking the official close of the Festival.

The 45th edition of the Fiesta del Fuego (Fire Festival), to be held around the same time in 2026, will be dedicated to the original cultures and the African diaspora of Colombia, which already promises to be as special as the one that has just concluded.
