Within the framework of the XV Caribbean Festival of Arts (Carifesta) taking place in Barbados, Cuban filmmaker Gloria Rolando participated in a panel discussion focusing on audiovisual and film production.
Representing the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), the director also addressed the distribution of films by Caribbean filmmakers during the meeting.
"This issue of films must be part of the CARICOM agenda because our images and our stories are part of the process that guarantees our independence," asserted Gloria Rolando in a message disseminated on Tuesday by the president of ICAIC, Alexis Triana.
According to the publication, the film Reembarque – Haymans Market will be screened at Carifesta 2025 on August 27th, while Diálogo con mi abuela will be shown on August 29th at the UWI, EBCCI Warner Walcott Theatre.
A group of artists is representing Cuba at the Carifesta festival, which runs in Barbados until August 31st under the theme "Caribbean Roots, Global Excellence."
Among the Cuban invitees are Deputy Minister of Culture, Lizette Martínez; poet and 2001 National Literature Prize laureate Nancy Morejón; the director of the National Museum of Fine Arts, Jorge Fernández; and Casa de las Américas specialist, Amanda Sánchez.
