Three Islands in One Nation
Though its name is often associated with a single island, Grenada is actually an archipelago of three main islands: Grenada (the largest, with rainforests, volcanoes, and the capital St. George’s), Carriacou (renowned for its unspoiled beaches and African cultural heritage), and Petite Martinique (the smallest, famous for traditional boatbuilding).
Ecotourism and Conservation
Levera Beach and Bathway Beach are two of the most important nesting sites for the leatherback turtle in Grenada. Conservation initiatives there aim to protect this endangered species and its fragile breeding habitats. Nesting season takes place between March and July.
A Volcanic Jewel in the Rainforest
Grand Etang National Park–the country’s largest–features a crater lake formed inside an extinct volcano, surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. It is ideal for hiking, birdwatching, and connecting with nature. Trails lead to waterfalls such as Seven Sisters Falls, and the area is home to mona monkeys (introduced in the 18th century) and the Grenada dove, an endangered endemic species.
