34th Havana International Book Fair Postponed

The 2026 Havana International Book Fair, which was set to feature Russia as the Guest of Honor, has been postponed due to the challenging situation currently facing Cuba, announced the island’s Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso.

In statements made on national television, Alonso attributed the current circumstances to the tightening of U.S. blockade measures against the country.

“An event as large as the Book Fair—which is the most massive cultural gathering in the country and draws such a significant crowd, particularly at its main venue here at La Cabaña in Havana—is something we have decided to postpone,” he stated.

Despite the postponement, the production of books in both digital and print formats will proceed. This includes titles originally scheduled for the fair as well as those slated for subsequent release. These works will continue to be printed, and book launches featuring Cuban authors will be held within local communities, alongside ongoing initiatives to promote reading, the minister noted.

An official statement released by the Cuban Book Institute (ICL) concluded by noting that new dates for this prominent cultural event will be announced in due course.
