Located on one of the most central avenues in Old Havana, the Havana Club Rum Museum proudly stands as one of the most visited sites by tourists visiting the Cuban capital. In this emblematic location, you will find a wealth of tradition and history of the Cuban rum production process, from the planting of sugarcane to the production of the exquisite spirit.
This March 31st, the museum celebrates its 25th anniversary as radiant as the first day it opened. Each welcome to visitors who come to the facility in search of knowledge about the production process of the iconic drink is a grand ceremony, as the ringing of a bell announces the beginning of a journey through the history of Cuban rum, dating back more than five centuries.
Several rooms await the visitor, from one that resembles a sugarcane field and a model of a sugar mill, to those that present the various processes involved in rum production and its final production.
Among the most attractive exhibits is a garden-scale replica of an early 20th-century sugar factory, where you can see all the production facilities and even a railroad, used to transport the cane from the plantations, which works just like the real thing. The piece is a great work of art, designed by Lázaro García Driggs.
The museum also has a gallery where numerous artists exhibit their works, further enriching the visit to the facility. For the museum's director, María Caridad Velázquez Díaz, who has led the facility since its foundation, the establishment has played a leading role in disseminating the authentic character of the Havana Club brand, in sharing the history and knowledge of the rum production process from the sugarcane field to the palate.
Something that Cary, as everyone calls her, considers extremely important in terms of the knowledge that the guides and specialists who serve visitors must have is that over the years, the facility's staff has been constantly training and interacting with the masters of Cuban rum, providing a real experience during the visit to the museum, which helps tourists leave the visit in love with Cuban rum.
At the end of the tour, guests can taste different Havana Club products and, depending on the tour chosen, have the opportunity to interact with a bartender and prepare their own cocktail or create their own personalized bottle of rum with a unique label.
Congratulations to Cary and all the museum staff on this new anniversary, and the entire CubaPLUS team wishes you continued success.
