Cuba has established its first agritourism network, initially comprising 18 farms in the western province of Pinar del Río. These properties primarily focus on tobacco cultivation, livestock farming, and diversified crop production.
Jorge Freddy Ramírez, lead specialist at the provincial government’s Territorial Development Directorate, told the newspaper Granma that the Vueltabajo region treasures deeply rooted traditional values that have endured for centuries.
Among the key attractions for visitors, Ramírez highlighted traditional lifestyles, agricultural techniques, animal husbandry, and an authentic farm-to-table culinary experience.
The official noted that the farms and cooperatives participating in this initiative have received specialized training supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), adding that the network remains open to new projects wishing to join.
Foremost among the requirements for integration into the network is that the farms must preserve the region’s traditional agricultural and livestock practices.
According to the specialist, agritourism is a segment of rural tourism that has been steadily gaining traction worldwide for several decades.
