The digital empowerment of the new generations today will be the central theme of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) World Youth Summit 2025 that will take place in Cuba next March.
Under the motto "Amplifying the voices of young people in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for a connected future", the event that will take place in Varadero from March 11 to 13 will include, as part of the program exchanges and panels, so that young people can take part in the dialogues and decision-making processes on the sector.
Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), said when launching the call that the main purpose of the event is "to create a space for young people to exchange and generate concrete proposals on how to define the future in the context of the digital age."
Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with the Ministry of Communications of the Republic of Cuba, the summit (CMJ-25) will be held in person and will host ITU members, Generation Connect Youth envoys and young guests from the United Nations and other related organizations.
"I am confident that this event will constitute a unique global platform for young people to share their ideas and perspectives with a view to shaping a more inclusive and connected digital future for young people around the world," said Luckyson.
The Summit also aims to explore and consider the potential of young minds in the digital age and to foster a global, intersectional and intergenerational conversation that actively involves young people. It will provide ITU Members (including governments, the private sector and academia), UN agencies and other policy makers with a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of ICT-related needs that are critical to empowering young people in all regions of the world and across all sectors.
"CMJ-25 will serve as a dynamic platform for dialogue among young people, stakeholders and decision-makers focused on addressing ICT needs and aspirations to support educational and socio-economic development, while exploring ways to ensure their effective participation in the digital economy, society and environment," said the BDT director.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a final report will be produced that will gather perspectives, innovative ideas and challenges faced by the different regions. The document will serve as a guide for policy makers, ITU Members and stakeholders who wish to harmonize their national, regional and global digital agendas, including using the report as input to the Regional Preparatory Meetings (RPMs) and the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (CMDT-25), the organizers said.
