The city of Enghien-les-Bains, in the Paris Region, will host its traditional Caribbean Festival next week, an event where Cuba and its music will be a highlight, according to cultural promoter Carmen Mayans.
In an interview with Prensa Latina, the event organizer explained that while Brazil is the guest of honor for this 22nd anniversary edition, the festival dedicates several key moments to Cuba, the largest of the Antilles. Cuba will be represented by internationally renowned artists.
The Enghien-les-Bains Center for the Arts (CDA), an institution with three decades of experience in building cultural bridges, will host the events scheduled from June 25th to 28th.
One of the most anticipated performances at the Caribbean Festival will take place next Saturday on the floating stage of the picturesque town's lake, featuring a unique concert by the Cuban group Havana D'Primera. The band is led by the virtuoso trumpeter and singer Alexander Abreu, a multi-award winner including a Latin Grammy.
According to Mayans, thousands of people are expected to attend the performance, and will also enjoy a large dance area enlivened by professional dancers Yalily Rodríguez and Iván Martínez.
"We will have other strong Cuban moments, such as the performance of pianist Malva Rodríguez and students from music schools on the island, an evening dedicated to the conga, and dance classes," she added.
Of particular interest is the illustrated lecture "Contradanza, danzón, mambo and cha-cha-cha…between France and Cuba," by CDA President Dominique Roland, a renowned expert in Cuban music.
Cuban Son will once again be a protagonist in Enghien-les-Bains during the 2025 Caribbean Festival, a popular musical-dance genre nominated to join UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
