Cuba: Tourism Minister Confident of Strong 2025-2026 Season

"We believe that the 2025-2026 winter season will be a strong one. We have high expectations," stated Cuba's Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García Granda, during an engagement with over 100 travel agents and specialized press in Canada, according to Sol de Cuba.

Speaking at an event titled "Cuba Única Commercial Appreciation Night" at the Illuminarium Toronto, García Granda based his assessment on the sector's new strategy, which involves hotel companies establishing their own enterprises for supply procurement.

He further explained that the creation of new foreign and domestic importing companies, alongside new wholesale 'Cash and Carry' stores, ensures efficient supply chains essential for maintaining high service standards across all hotels.

Regarding the Canadian market, Cuba's primary source of tourists for approximately 30 years, the Minister stated: "The island is open, ready, and profoundly grateful for the unwavering support of travelers from this country."

For her part, Cuba's Tourism Counselor in Toronto, Gihana Galindo, expressed confidence that "we can achieve one million Canadian visitors next year. The conditions are right, people are ready, and the partnership between Cuba and Canada has never been stronger."

During other segments of the meeting, both the Minister and the Counselor provided updates on the situation in Cuba's eastern region following the recent passage of Hurricane Melissa. In this regard, they informed that Holguín was operational within 24 hours of the atmospheric phenomenon passing, while other provinces in the territory are currently functioning for visitors.

“Electricity, airports, and tourist facilities are operating normally. Canadian travelers can come with confidence; we are ready to welcome them," Galindo said.

Finally, García Granda emphasized, "Our friendship with Canada has always been special... We are proud of our recovery, proud of our hospitality, and proud of our Canadian friends who continue to visit us year after year."

During the meeting, García Granda also officially launched FITCuba 2026, which will be dedicated to Canada and held from May 6 to 10.
