Cuba values the usefulness of UNESCO-associated schools

The director of the UNESCO Regional Office, Annet Lemaistre, recognized this Tuesday the active participation of Cuba in the conception of transformative educational systems, according to the sustainable development objectives of the UN.

During her speech at the XIX International Congress Pedagogy 2025 that is taking place in the capital Palace of Conventions, Lemaistre highlighted the presence on the island of a network of schools associated with this organization attached to the United Nations Organization (UN), useful to other nations.

She pointed out in this regard that Cuban educators have extensive innovative educational experience and regularly use the sites recognized by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO). She also mentioned the relevance of this Cuban practice to achieve the purposes contained in the Fourth Sustainable Development Goal of the 2030 Agenda of the world body, and urged to continue increasing the number of educational institutions associated with the entity she represents.

The expert explained on the second day of the Congress, which runs until next Thursday, that the event seeks to create an adequate space for educational systems to adapt to a changing world, where technology is at the service of education. Along these lines, she also urged to introduce innovative mechanisms in the financing of education. “We have called for a new social contract for education aimed at reimagining the futures of investment and shaping more peaceful, fair and sustainable societies,” she argued.
