Marabana 2026, one of the most highly anticipated events on Cuba's sports calendar, is set to take place on November 15 in Havana, welcoming both local and international runners to the starting line.
This iconic marathon is expected to draw thousands of participants from across the globe. For context, the 2025 edition saw over 3,100 runners compete, including some 300 international athletes representing 33 countries. Competitors can choose from several distances: the full marathon (42.195 km), the half marathon (21.098 km), or the 10K and 5K races.
Celebrating its milestone 40th edition this year, the event is far more than a test of physical endurance—it is a celebration of Cuban culture and spirit. Runners will trace a route through some of the most iconic landmarks of Havana, officially designated a "Wonder City." The course takes participants from the world-famous Malecón seawall to the historic Plaza de la Revolución, offering breathtaking views and the warm, vibrant atmosphere of the capital.
The race features a wide array of competitive divisions, including categories for para-athletes and age groups ranging from Under-30, Sub-Master (30–35), Master A (36–40), through Masters B, C, D, F, G, and H (for runners over 70).
A key highlight of this 40th anniversary edition is the implementation of new race-day measures. Drawing from logistical insights over the past five years and aligning with the latest regulations from the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and World Athletics (WA), these updates aim to streamline race operations and enhance the runner experience.
Beyond the competition, Marabana maintains a strong social focus by supporting charitable causes and promoting active, healthy lifestyles. It is designed not only to foster athletic talent but also to inspire the local community to embrace physical fitness and wellness.
Ultimately, Marabana 2026 will be a celebration of sport, identity, and culture, uniting runners of all backgrounds in an environment of high energy and camaraderie. It promises to be an unforgettable experience for both the athletes on the course and the spectators lining the streets of Havana!
