Eastern Cuba Ready for International Tourism

Cuba's eastern region, which bore the brunt of Hurricane Melissa on October 29th, has largely recovered, with 90 percent of its tourist facilities now operational, according to statements by Deputy Minister of Tourism Yamily Aldama.

In Santiago de Cuba, the airport has been operational for several days, and as of the 10th, virtually all facilities in the province are prepared to welcome visitors. Guardalavaca, in Holguín, is also fully operational, having received two flights from Canada on the 5th and one from Russia on the 8th.

Facilities in Las Tunas province are now operational, and Camagüey, which experienced the least impact, is functioning without issue. Granma and Guantánamo are also in suitable condition and fully operational.

Aldama concluded by commending the unwavering support of tourism workers in the repair and recovery efforts. She emphasized that these individuals "spared no time or effort" in rectifying the damage caused by Melissa, adding that without their dedication, the swift recovery would have been virtually impossible.
