The exhibition “Palimpsestos, Orikis, Odunes y Mitomorfos en el Reino de Este Mundo” by Santiago-born visual artist Jorge Hidalgo will open this coming Friday at the main gallery of the Holguín Provincial Center of Visual Arts, celebrating his 85th birthday.
Featuring a selection of the artist's works created between 2022 and the current year, the exhibition will remain open through October 11 at the art center, located at the corner of Martí and Maceo streets in the provincial capital of Holguín.
According to poet, essayist, and writer Eugenio Marrón, “this exhibition reveals how the artist masters the origin of the line with the drive to consecrate it, multiform nature as an environmental identity, the keen observation that delineates characters and plots, the capacity to uncover desires and mutations, and the knowledge that allows him to delve into the most intricate recesses of anguish and memory, certitudes and longings, light and shadow—a showcase where humanity is the sum of representations, expressed by Jorge Hidalgo from the most remote past to the present day.”
With a distinguished career spanning over six decades, Hidalgo is not only a painter, but also a printmaker, draftsman, and writer. He has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, representing Cuba across various countries as both an exhibitor and lecturer. His works are held in various museums and private collections both in Cuba and internationally.
The exhibition, which can be visited daily starting the 11th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., also stands as a well-deserved tribute to an artist who has dedicated his life to the visual arts without sparing time or effort.
We wish this talented artist a very happy belated birthday (September 6) and many more years to come, so that he may continue enriching us with the beauty of his creations.
