The 34th edition of the Havana International Book Fair is set to return to the Cuban capital next February, operating under the Martí maxim "To Read Is to Grow." This year, the Russian Federation will be featured as its Guest of Honor country.
This information was announced on Tuesday at a press conference by the organizers, who also explained that the fair will be dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.
It was also revealed that the event will pay tribute to Cuban poet, narrator, literary critic, and editor Marylin Bobes, recipient of the José Antonio Fernández de Castro National Cultural Journalism Award, and to José Bell Lara, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences and a Full and Consulting Professor at the University of Havana.
Speaking at the conference, held at the International Press Center, Juan Rodríguez Cabrera, President of the Cuban Book Institute, highlighted that this literary gathering represents a significant commitment and a major undertaking for the country's publishers, writers, translators, editors, promoters, and all book industry professionals. Their collective effort aims to provide the public with the best possible fair during these extremely complex and challenging times.
For his part, Viktor Viktorovich Koronelli, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cuba, stated that they are working to present the Cuban public with the finest examples of Russian literature, cinema, music, and art in their full splendor.
During the event, scheduled from February 12 to 22, approximately 1,500 titles will be presented, alongside a special edition featuring selected Russian authors. Some of these authors will attend the fair to interact with the public and share their literary experiences.
The press conference was also presided over by Iyaimi Palomares, Director of the Cuban Book Chamber.
