Varadero, Cuba to Host Gran Retto Open Water Swim

The Gran Retto Open Water Swim is set to return to the Cuban beachside city of Varadero, with its fourth edition taking place September 13-14.

Organized by Mexican brand Gran Retto and sponsored by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, Cubadeportes, and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), the competition will be staged near the Hotel Los Delfines on the Hicacos Peninsula.

The official Gran Retto website declares, "Swimming in one of the world's most beautiful beaches is incredible," and this is a key draw for participants from many different countries, as it has been in past years.

The event program includes races at 750 and 1500 meters, as well as 3, 5, and 10-kilometer distances, with each race divided into age categories.

As in previous years, the Varadero Gran Retto Open Water Swim will provide on-site first aid, according to the event website.

Since its inception in 2022, the event has welcomed swimmers from Mexico, the United States, Peru, Spain, and Cuba, all motivated by the opportunity to combine tourism and sport while experiencing one of the world's most stunning beaches.
