As every year, Canada celebrates its day on July 1, because it was on this date, 156 years ago (1867, when the Federation of Canada was established. On this day, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada, hitherto British colonies, joined to form a single political entity, thereby making Canada allied to the British Empire as an independent federation.

At first, the day was called Dominion Day, as it was the official designation of that territory as part of the British Empire and little more than a century later, in 1982 the name changed to Canada Day. The national celebration includes, among other activities, parades, concerts, and fireworks, to which the participants come dressed in red and white to honor their flag.

In Ottawa, festivities begin with the Canada ceremony on Parliament Hill, followed by live concerts, parades, and cultural performances throughout the day, and to top it all off, at night, a shower of fireworks illuminates the city. The main activity that takes place in Toronto is the "Amphitheater Unplugged", in which Canadian musicians present acoustic performances.

In addition to this, there are parades, children's parties, art exhibitions, and outdoor film projections. To finish the population goes to Lake Ontario, where they enjoy a great fireworks show. In the case of the city of Montreal, the celebration usually coincides with the "Montreal International Jazz Festival", one of the largest jazz shows in the world.

Other activities are also carried out that end with fireworks in the old port of that city. The celebrations in Calgary are not far behind. The main event is the Canada Day Parade; with a parade of floats, musical bands, and community groups through the main streets of the city. In general, this day has great significance for all Canadians as the date represents the heritage and diversity of the nation. Everyone receives a big congratulations.
