The highly anticipated GuyExpo 2023 fair opened this Thursday at the Exhibition Complex Sophia of Georgetown with the participation of about 250 exhibitors under the motto: “Transforming Guyana through investment, innovation and resilience.”

Speaking at the opening, the Prime Minister, Mark Phillips, who currently performs the duties of President, said that the return of GuyExpo is an excellent sign of the new potential and business growth of the country. This year’s theme resounds with the development path I just outlined: ¨the path of prosperity we envision for our great nation. Therefore, let us be proud of our journey as a nation. There is no turning back; we're going forward.

Taking advantage of this forward momentum, we are determined to provide greater opportunities for businesses and citizens to take advantage of the emerging opportunities of an economy in expansion and diversification. Let the spirit of “One Guyana” guide us towards a brighter and more prosperous tomorrow for everyone,” he said.

Later he went on to remind Guyanese of the work being done to position the country as a world leader in a number of areas and he added in that sense that the leadership of President Ali's visionary is propelling Guyana to a position of global prominence on climate security. “The government has developed a visionary Low Carbon Development Strategy, which allows, among other things, to provide environmental services to the rest of the world from its standing forests. We have already signed an agreement to provide 750 million dollars coming from the sale of carbon credits,” he said.

For her part, the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond, expressed that the Government is delighted to return the prestigious event to the national calendar in its “original location” in Sofia. GuyExpo is a comprehensive exhibition that impacts a wide range of diverse stakeholders, from the largest to the smallest, she noted. The event, which will take place until the 19th, will allow participants to show their products and services, something longed for by Guyanese, since this fair, held for the first time in 1995, had a seven-year hiatus.

The event will feature a children's area, a food court and plenty of entertainment. On Friday there will be a chutney night, while on Saturday, local artists will perform and on Sunday the entertainment will be provided by Steelband.
