The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Guyana Tourism and Hospitality Association (THAG) and the Target Euro consultancy presented on Tuesday the Official Tourism Product Development Manual that provides a structured approach to developing industry products that attract visitors with respect for the environment, culture and heritage of the nation.
Born out of GTA and THAG receiving a Compete Caribbean Partnership Fund (CCPF) grant to accelerate tourism circuit development in the Essequibo region, the document emphasizes sustainable practices, community engagement and experiential learning, positioning the country as a leader in responsible tourism.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, GTA director Kamrul Baksh noted that the manual is part of a much broader picture of the institution that, together with the sector ministry, is committed to developing new products. One example of this is that they recently launched the Guyana Tourism Product Development Grants program, in which several new product ideas were proposed.
“We have received more than 10 exciting and diverse new experiences across all regions, including mountain biking, kayaking, and community tours. This playbook will go hand in hand and will play a very complementary role with the subsidy for operators who want to set up these experiences”, he added.
Baksh also announced that the Community Tourism Guide and Entrepreneur Program will also be published soon, with the aim of creating a community of guides, outfitters and suppliers who can carry the document and develop these experiences in all regions.
