The word "yoga" comes from the word "jug", which means "to unite, to connect, to relate" in Sanskrit, the classical language of India. Therefore, the aim of this discipline is to generate and strengthen the connection between the human being and the universe.
About nine years ago, Michel Uranga Briñas took up this practice and did so out of the need to find the physical and mental perfection necessary as a Thai massage therapist.
Yoga connects body, breath and mind. It uses physical postures, breathing exercises and meditation to improve overall health. It can change the level of physical fitness, reduce blood pressure and heart rate, help relaxation, self-confidence, reduce stress, restore coordination, concentration and overcome anxiety and depression.
"Its daily practice brings all the benefits that a human being can imagine," this educator, therapist, artist, influencer and yoga teacher tells CubaPLUS Guyana.
“Even more than we can imagine, I would dare say,” he adds. “Man does not know why he was created and most ignore the purpose of existence. But there is no physical and mental limit to improvement. Over the years, yoga has become very popular in the West, especially because of its achievements in the fields of mind and health. Most physical illnesses and psychological imbalances can be improved and even corrected. We take into account that the body contains the most complete and perfect pharmacy ever seen within itself.”
In Cuba, Uranga Briñas explains, this knowledge has spread in the past decade, as teachers and students have grown in number, especially of kundalini yoga, which was not common before on the island.
Talking to this spiritual leader, we asked him for some recommendations for anyone who wants to start on the paths of yoga and he told us: "My advice is personal sincerity. The question is what do you want, where are you going? Love yourself above all and especially so that in this way you will love the experience of this life. The human being must be interested in learning the laws of nature and only in this way will we understand the laws of body and mind.
My suggestion is also that you understand your personal value in helping others. You cannot give what you do not have. So the only option to serve is to serve yourself enough to be a great support to others who need your help.”
