With the presence of more than 59 Canadian companies and institutions, the National Day of Canada was celebrated as part of the activities of the 35th International Fair of Havana (FIHAV) that takes place in the ExpoCuba fairgrounds.
Speaking at the event, the Cuban Minister of Tourism, Manuel Marrero, stressed that Canada continues to be the undisputed leader in the issuance of vacationers to the country, with a total of 965 thousand arrivals so far this year.
He said that a good presence of Canadians is expected in this tourist season that begins tomorrow with more than one million, of the four million 700 thousand visitors that are expected to reach the largest of the Antilles.
Later he said that Canada is the fourth commercial partner of the Island and that so far this year there has been a growth of the exchange by 24 percent, a recovery from the decrease experienced in 2016 due to short-term issues.
For his part, the ambassador of that country in Cuba, Patrick Parisot stressed that both states have diplomatic relations for 72 years and a sign of the good state of these links is the large presence of Canadian entities in FIHAV 2017.
The event was also attended by the Minister of International Relations and the Francophonie of Quebec, Christine St-Pierre, who during the present visit to the Island also opened the permanent representation of the government of that province in Havana.
The Canadian pavilion exhibits products and services from companies and institutions such as the Government of Ontario; Atlantic Canada, which represents the four eastern provinces of the country; Export Quebec, unit of the Ministry of Economy, Science and Innovation of Quebec, among others.
