Cuba Reports Positive Results for Cancer Vaccine Candidate

A Cuban therapeutic vaccine for solid tumors has shown positive results in treating advanced colorectal, hepatocellular, ovarian, and renal cancers, with potential applications for patients presenting multiple comorbidities, it was announced today.

Known as HEBERSaVax, this active immunotherapy vaccine was developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) and has demonstrated minimal, tolerable side effects during Phase II clinical trials.

These characteristics allow the candidate to be combined with conventional therapies without increasing toxicity, explained project leader Yanelys Morera, a full member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, during a press briefing.

The scientist explained that a growing tumor is an active mass requiring nutrients and oxygen to survive. The vaccine cuts off these supply pathways while triggering cellular responses that halt tumor progression, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
