Cuba will present a dossier on vaccines against COVID-19 to the WHO
Cuba will present to the World Health Organization (WHO) next March a dossier with the necessary information for the prequalification of the vaccines made in the country against COVID-19, announced the director of BioCubaFarma, Eduardo Martínez.
At a press conference offered this Tuesday for the BioHabana 2022 international congress, the specialist explained that the entity he represents is preparing a document with several chapters with the results of clinical and preclinical research, pharmaceutical development and everything related to production facilities. , an aspect to which adaptations have been made.
In this regard, he said the production of the Abdala vaccine, developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, will change its place to the recently inaugurated plant in Mariel, west of Havana, which will be subject to inspection so that when it is available, obtain permission and its inclusion in the list of products recognized by the WHO.
Referring to the congress, which will be held under the slogan "Science for a healthy life", he mentioned numerous issues to be addressed during the five days of sessions (from April 25 to 29), including the Covid-19 pandemic , aspects of the epidemiology of the disease, the impact of the application of our own vaccines and their effectiveness.
So far, the participation of over 100 researchers, specialists and health authorities from the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia is expected, who will also address issues related to brain diseases, the potential of BioCubaFarma for neurotechnological development and their social introduction.
According to the organizers, the Cuban Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industries Group (BioCubaFarma), this event will be an exchange platform to show and identify Cuban biopharmaceutical assets with competitive potential to access global markets.
