Cuba will celebrate on December 31, known more as New Year's Eve, this time tempered by the consequences of a post-pandemic and blocked economy, which will reduce the widespread presence of roast pork as main dish, together with congrí or black beans with rice, in traditional family dinners.
However, the changes that will be made to this emblematic menu for the taste and family tradition are considered temporary and our countrymen trust we will not lose this habit and will once again taste the delicious pastries bequeathed to our palates, such as collective memories of our grandparents and great grandparents.
Added to the oriental cassava with mojo, the salad, the fritters, and endless recipes for homemade sweets and artisan nougats which have delighted generations in these festivities before the arrival of the deadly Covid-19 virus.
Not counting the presence of rum, wine, beer and cider, four types of liquor that always had a permanent presence at our parties and this time also more scarce, mainly due to inflation and shortages. But the Cuban family will never lose their New Year's party.
With a variant of standard national rum for everyone and the presence of roasted, fried or rice chicken, we Cubans will say goodbye as a family to this year 2022, which will be unforgettable due to the occurrence of extraordinary events, some of them very harsh and sad. And it will be because we have the joy of seeing all schools and universities in the country operating, while promoting programs to attract tourism, one of its economic locomotives and by strengthening food production, community benefit programs, and technological and industrial development.
Although there will not be the incessant traffic by roads, boats and planes of people going to meet their families in these traditional feasts. Equally, there will be movement. Gradually the nation increases transportation and communications, with the conviction that, if there is commitment, life will soon march towards the prosperity people deserve so much. With music and a diversity of shows everywhere, together with family and friends, this town will have &cumbancha" and greet the arrival of the New Year and one more anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution that January 1, 1959 with laughter, hugs, congratulations, dances and nostalgia.
Vaccines provided by the creative and consecrated Cuban science keep embers of the epidemic at bay, while dengue and other diseases are controlled. Stability and good omens will help all Cuba.. Discouragement has never accompanied the children of the Pearl of the Antilles.
