Cuban President Inaugurates Solar Park in Central Cuba

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel led the inauguration of the Remedios solar photovoltaic park this Friday, the first of its kind in the central province of Villa Clara. The site, already synchronized with the National Electric Energy System (SEN), provides 21.87 megawatts and is one of three similar installations planned in the central region as part of a comprehensive plan in Cuba focused on the installation of 26 solar photovoltaic parks before the end of the current year.

According to Eduardo Pérez, the photovoltaic park represents an investment of 650 million pesos, and its operation will save nine thousand tons of fuel each year, especially during the midday peak, the second peak of each day in terms of electricity demand. The 32-hectare enclave has more than 42,000 solar panels placed on 1,638 tables and operates with Chinese technology, characterized by its efficiency and ready to withstand the climate conditions prevailing in the Caribbean.

Cuba's goal this year is to reach 1,000 megawatts of solar-powered electricity by the end of 2025, an intermediate step toward the larger goal of having 46 installations of this type and doubling solar generation by 2030.

During this session, Díaz-Canel also plans to evaluate the development of economic and social development programs in Villa Clara, as part of a government strategy aimed at seeking solutions based on local initiatives, with efficiency and the use of science and innovation.
