Cuban Scientist Appointed to World Federation of Engineering Organizations

As of this Monday, Dr. Sara Fernández Cruz has joined the Women in Engineering (WIE) Committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), serving as a representative for Cuba.

The appointment of Dr. Fernández Cruz, a professor in the Department of Construction at the University of Holguín, recognizes her distinguished career spanning over four decades in hydrogeological engineering and water resource management.

In this new role, Dr. Fernández Cruz will contribute to the organization’s global discourse on equity, sustainability, social development, and the leadership of women within the engineering sector.

The Women in Engineering Committee (WIE) is dedicated to advancing the inclusion and visibility of female scientists in technological innovation projects, with a particular emphasis on community-based impact.

Through this appointment, Cuba strengthens its presence within the WFEO’s decision-making bodies, advocating for Global South perspectives in the sustainable management of water resources.
