Díaz-Canel Receives CEO of Canadian Airline WestJet

Cuba expressed its interest in strengthening ties with Canadian airline WestJet during a meeting between President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the company's CEO, Alexis von Hoensbroech, the Presidency of the Caribbean nation reported.

"We greatly appreciate the work you do with Cuba," the President said upon receiving the businessman from the northern nation this Wednesday at the Palace of the Revolution, the seat of government.

Von Hoensbroech, for his part, emphasized the honor of being in the Antillean nation, considered by his compatriots as "a very important destination," the source revealed.

He also highlighted that WestJet travels to six tourist destinations in Cuba and that the island's capital was recently announced as a new itinerary.

Also present at the exchange were Juan Carlos García Granda, Cuban Minister of Tourism, Jorge Alberto García Domínguez, First Deputy Minister of the sector, and Erick Rodríguez, Executive Vice President of the Canadian tour operator Sunwing.

The Canadian senior executive toured the sites most frequented by clients arriving from his country, including the resort city of Varadero and Havana.

According to data processed by the National Office of Statistics and Information of Cuba up to February 28, 2024, Cuba received a total of 496,858 international travelers, of which approximately 173,611 were from Canada, the main source market, followed by the Cuban community abroad (38,757).
