Eight Cuban Swimmers to Compete in Martinique Tournament

A delegation of eight Cuban swimmers—four male and four female—will represent the island this weekend at the Claude Sufrin In Memoriam 2026 tournament in Martinique.

In statements to the digital sports outlet Jit, National Swimming Commissioner Nelson García noted that the young athletes, all aged 17 or under, are aiming to improve their personal bests during this traditional Caribbean winter meet.

The female roster features Helen de La Guardia, Analia de La Vega, Amanda Montero, and Adanays Alejandra Mencheros. In addition to freestyle events, Montero and Mencheros are slated to compete in the backstroke and butterfly categories, respectively.

The male squad is comprised of Yadiel Estrada, Danilo Savín, Jairo Brito, and Alessandro Herrera. With the exception of Estrada, all the boys are scheduled to compete in multiple disciplines.

Cuba previously participated in this event in 2023, where a four-member team returned home with nine medals and a team trophy.

The primary objective for Cuban swimming this year remains the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo. The national program aims to secure approximately eight qualifying berths during the first half of the season.
