Havana Film Festival Opens Call for Entries

The International Festival of New Latin American Cinema opened submissions this Friday for its 47th edition, scheduled to take place in the Cuban capital from December 3 to 13.

The call for entries will remain open until August 15 across competitive categories including narrative features, documentaries, debut features, short films, and animation.

The festival is also accepting submissions for its "Otros territorios" (Other Territories) section for alternative narrative proposals; "Arrecife" (Reef), dedicated to queer cinema; unproduced screenplays; and posters highlighting regional film.

According to the organizing committee, filmmakers must submit works focusing on Latin American or Caribbean themes that were completed between 2025 and 2026.

Films that have participated in previous editions of the festival or have been screened at other film events in Cuba are ineligible for competition. However, they may be considered for non-competitive showcases, such as Latinoamérica en Perspectiva (Latin America in Perspective) and Panorama Internacional (International Panorama).

Key accolades include the prestigious Coral Awards for the best work in each category, the Special Jury Coral, and awards for directing, screenwriting, cinematography, acting, original score, and editing, the organizers noted.

Registration must be completed exclusively through the festival's official website or at its offices in Havana. Full guidelines and details are available on the website and the event's social media channels.
