ICAIC delivers today Cuba's 2020 National Film Award

The Cuban Institute of Art and Industry of Cinema (ICAIC) will distinguish on Saturday with the 2020 National Film Award to the scriptwriter and professor Senel Paz and, post mortem, to the producer of animated films Francisco Prats alias Paco. The latter died on September 2nd, aged 76, when he was still working as a producer in the Animation Studios of ICAIC.

The decision to award the prize to Paz y Prats was announced in February, but the measures taken due to the global spread of the novel coronavirus forced to postpone the ceremony until now.

A prestigious jury, chaired by sound designer and 2019 National Film Award, Jeronimo Labrada, agreed to honor the two professionals for their extensive and sustained careers in the Cuban film industry.

With Prats#39; recognition, one of the most relevant creators of animation in the country, it was wanted to highlight his work trajectory, since he even assumed the direction for years of the Department of Cartoons and, later, became a producer of a sustained work in the ICAIC.

The award also recognizes Paz#39;s work as a screenwriter of significant works in the institution#39;s film industry, including the films #39;Una novia para David#39; (A Girlfriend for David) (1985), #39;Adorables Mentiras#39; (Adorable Lies) (1991), #39;Fresa y Chocolate#39; (Strawberry and Chocolate)(1993) and #39;Lista de espera#39; (The Waiting List) (2001).
