The 40th edition of the Jazz Plaza 2025 International Festival brought together more than one hundred musicians this Wednesday during the show "Cuba Vive", directed by maestro Nachito Herrera in the city of Santa Clara, one of the venues of the event.
The Villa Clara Symphony Orchestra, a Jazz Band, the Provincial Choir, the Cantoría of the School of Art and a folkloric group from Martinique, one of the nations present at the festival, participated in the gala, dedicated to highlighting the best of Cuban art.
According to Eliot Porta, a member of the organizing committee, the show reflected the diversity of Cuban culture, while giving value to a festival that for the first time comes to Santa Clara, which together with Havana and Santiago de Cuba host the most important jazz meeting on the Island.
As part of the festival, scheduled until February 2, Bobby Carcasés and Zaida del Río, respective national music and visual arts award winners, received the status of "Distinguished Guest of the City," a tribute from the province where they were born, for their contributions to culture.
Likewise, the renowned Cuban-American musician Ignacio Nachito Herrera received the status of "Illustrious Son of Santa Clara" and the "Zarapico," the highest cultural distinction awarded by the Government of the central province.
Osnay Miguel Colina, secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Villa Clara, praised the contributions of the three creators not only in the artistic field, but also for their profound social work and their commitment to the values that make up the national identity. Among the most relevant activities on Wednesday was the opening of the solo exhibition “Celebration,” by Zaida del Río, creator of the event’s visual identity.
In addition to the performances of more than 30 groups and soloists from six countries in America and Europe, Jazz Plaza 2025 in Santa Clara includes exhibitions of visual arts, photography, book presentations, talks and tours of educational centers.
