Trinidad de Cuba celebrated 511 years ready to protect its culture

 The city of Trinidad celebrated this Sunday the Solemn Assembly of the People's Power in the framework of the 511 years of the foundation of the town, with the commitment to be guarantors of its history and culture integrated into modernity.

The La Caridad Theater was the venue for the Solemn Session that was attended by Deivy Pérez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and its first secretary in the province, Alexis Lorente, Governor, and other personalities.

Tania Gutiérrez, president of the People's Power of Trinidad, gave a report highlighting the sectors that made the greatest contributions to the development program, especially the increase in results in health, agriculture and the realization of social works. The Unique Prize for the Arts and the Symbol of the City were awarded at the session, as well as recognitions to institutions, to the organizers of the Canchánchara Festival, for their combination of history, culture and entertainment, and to the House of Culture.

During the day, authorities and guests participated in the inauguration of various social works completed in a period of colossal challenges and in the midst of the unjust economic blockade of the United States, Tania Gutiérrez, president of the Assembly, told Prensa Latina.

Once again it was shown that through unity, effort and creative perseverance, the people of Trinidad are up to the task of times that require greater contributions from society, argued Gutiérrez. She confirmed that this year the commemoration is dedicated to reverencing the heritage and the titles of Artisan City of the World and Creative City.

The program includes galas, musical revues with local artists and guests, dances, tributes to personalities, exhibition openings and other activities aimed at different audiences. The National Museum of the Fight against Bandits hosted the 36th edition of the Colloquium of Trinidadian Culture, a theoretical event whose central theme was ¨Connection between past and present¨.

Sixteen investigations competed for the awards, and for the first time, a special recognition was given to “Letters for History” by the duo Odalys Borges and Juana Yamilé Pérez. The Relevant category went to the work “Esteban Domenech, Trinidad’s favorite painter” by Lisa Robaina and Radelex Cartaya.

Other awards were for “Catalogue by region of operations in the fight against bandits” and “Characterization of the compendium of unpublished documents for the history of Trinidad made by Manolo Becquer”, by Vivian Quesada and Rosa Yma Zerquera. Meanwhile, on a plain north of the town of Trinidad and the Valley of the Sugar Mills, the 511th tree was planted with the participation of political authorities, guests and cultural figures.
