Varadero, Cuba's main sun and beach destination, is ready for the high tourist season (November-April), which is about to begin and where most of the hotel facilities have been renovated, both in terms of amenities and services.
In this regard, this journalist, along with a group of colleagues from the specialized press, has just made a tour of several hotel and non-hotel facilities in the famous resort, invited by the Ministry of Tourism, where it was possible to appreciate how this resort has been prepared to receive vacationers from all over the world.
In one of the facilities visited, the Meliá Varadero, its General Manager, Marco Mazzucchelli, explained that for the 2024-2025 winter season, 50% of the housing stock has been completely renovated, which means that customers will enjoy better comfort.
So far this year, we have exceeded our occupancy and sales plan and we expect growth of between 3.5 and 5% of these indices for the season that is beginning, which promises very good prospects for us, he said. On his part, when touring the Sol Palmeras hotel, the first one opened in Cuba as a joint venture 34 years ago, its General Manager, Antonio Díaz, spoke extensively about the facility and the magnificent conditions it has, which despite the challenges faced, has always “come out victorious.”
“Sol palmeras has always remained faithful to the quality and variety of products it offers and that is partly because we have an import license, which allows us, together with national suppliers, to guarantee the minimum resources to satisfy the requirements of our clients,” he assured.
Continuing the tour, we visited the Blau Varadero hotel, where its Deputy General Manager, Laura Tandrón, spoke extensively about the facility, which is highly preferred by Canadian tourists, since this year the occupancy rate of vacationers from the North American nation has been 47% of the total number of clients received.
In view of the upcoming high season, she explained, the areas facing the client have been rejuvenated, above all, such as the tennis court, the shooting range, the interior gardening, and the conditions of the rooms have been improved.
As for Canadian vacationers, the first segment of clients that the hotel currently has, we offer them a personalized service that includes a "friends of Canada" cocktail, which is very popular, although we also have a series of personalized packages, for select and repeated vacationers, among others, for all markets in general.
He also explained that in addition to Canada, they have visitors from Europe, mainly from Russia and Germany, and they are working to promote new markets, such as the Southern Cone. Iberostar Varadero was another of the hotels visited this weekend, during which its General Manager, Fernando Ortega, explained that the hotel has very good conditions from every point of view for the high season that begins in November and, in addition, for this they will have new services that will surely please their clientele.
We plan to install three food trucks in the gardens, a Snack kitchen, a bar and an ice cream shop with its own factory, to make our ice cream, which will surely be very popular among our guests, since while sunbathing and enjoying the pool they can eat or drink whatever they want.
The itinerary ended at the Royalton Hicacos, managed by Blue Diamond Resorts, considered one of the best hotels in the country, since its high quality has made it worthy of multiple awards. The hotel, reported its General Manager, Jaime Capó, is undergoing a remodeling of all the rooms (404). We already have 84 and 12 more will be added in the high season that begins. The bathrooms have been completely renovated, the lighting and other details have been changed to offer greater comfort to the clients.
The tour also included some extra-hotel facilities in Varadero, among them the Plaza América Convention Center, the Varadero Golf Club and the restaurants La Bodeguita del Medio and El Floridita, all ready and with the appropriate conditions to offer their best services to the tourists who choose this center.
According to official statistics, for this high season, Varadero, the first sun and beach destination in the largest of the Antilles, will have 52 hotels in operation with all the amenities that tourists may require, as well as numerous offers, including more than 40 excursions that include city, nature, adventure, heritage and culture tourism modalities for the enjoyment of those who choose to travel to Cuba Única.
