Wonderful Havana is already celebrating its 505th birthday

Havana, one of the seven wonder cities of the modern world for eight years now, will celebrate its 505th anniversary next November, which is why it is celebrating practically throughout 2024 that important date for the people of Havana and all the Cubans in general.

It is for this reason that starting this month, when the island's summer holidays begin, we will be talking about multiple places in the city, not because they are sometimes very well-known, cease to be of interest to both foreign and national visitors. These celebrations take place under the motto “Havana lives in me”, whose program, designed by the Office of the City and Government Historian, includes three stages: the The first started last April and ends on July 26, the second from July 27 to 16th November, and the third from November 17 to January 8, 2025.

For example, on May 18, coinciding with International Museum Day, new rooms were opened in the Casa de la Obra Pía, in Old Havana, as a result of foreign cooperation.

Likewise, both residents of the capital and visitors can see between July and August the streets of the Wonder City through the Rutas and Andares Project, which includes guided tours to museums, walks through public spaces, thematic routes, virtual tours and workshops.

Likewise, the birth of relevant personalities of the country will be commemorated, among them the births of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz (13th August),  the first historian of the city, Emilio Roig (August 23), and the also renowned historian of the capital, Dr. Eusebio Leal, from September 2 to 14.

In October from the 9th to the 20th - the latter being National Culture Day - the Mozart Festival will take place in Havana of classical music, while November offers the population an extensive program in museums and cultural centers to celebrate the foundation that is commemorated on the 16th and as it is customary to feature the traditional walk around the ceiba.

We invite you to participate in these and many other activities that will be carried out throughout the day of celebration, because both you and the Wonder City deserve it. Havana is one of the 7 cities that officially received the title of Wonder City; the 7th June  2017, by election of thousands of people in the third annual contest that calls the Swiss foundation New 7 Wonders, for its mythical appeal, the warmth and welcoming of its environment, and the charisma and joviality of its inhabitants.
