With over sixteen years of experience in the fashion world, Sidney Lindsay Francois is currently one of the best known designers in Guyana and the Caribbean, and has had the privilege of working with beauty queens of various contests in his country, such as Miss Universe and Miss World.
He recounted to this publication that in school he was always keen to prepare whatever assignments he was given in arts and crafts class, but it was not until he continued studies at the ER Burrowes School of the Arts that his passion &ignited" and where he was certain of what his future would be.
My journey began by designing with major fashion houses in Guyana and then, in 2016, Francois Designs was born, specializing in luxury womenswear, such as couture wedding gowns, runway dresses and ready-to-wear," he said. &We have launched several collections that represent women in our society and our country, such as the Garden City collection that empowers and speaks of confidence in women. It also represents the garden city of Guyana, known for the beauty of its flora and fauna, which has captivated the well-known Hollywood actress Carol Christine Hilaria Pounder," he added.
His designs became big and went international, which is why he had the honor of presenting his collections at the Caribbean Style and Culture fashion show in the United States in 2016, where he received the award for EXCELLENCE IN FASHION INNOVATION.
Francois Design’s creations have also been exhibited in China, Barbados, French Guiana, Suriname, Curacao and other countries.
My inspiration comes from everything around me and I have been a humble person all my life, which I think characterizes me in everything I do and create. I feel there is no limit to my talent as I have created costume designs, menswear, children’s wear and so much more."
I have so much to give and so much passion for this industry that I will continue to give it my all, and in a few years, I hope to have my clothes in many stores around the world and gracing the stages of Paris and Milan, but I will always remain Guyanese and humble," he concluded.
