Alexis Plasencia. The body is a temple...the temple is the art

Alexis Plasencia García is an academically trained artist who in the human figure has found a basis on which to develop his career. His initial work, realistic, has evolved toward the current theme where the body continues as protagonist, but not in the mimicry of a role or supporting canvas, but rather within the covering dermis itself, becoming a stage for the creation.

Alexis Plasencia. The body is a temple... the temple is the artExploring these pathways of body art generates a discussion about the body, a very attractive proposition for a discipline which has developed discretely in Cuba.

The artist has represented Cuba in numerous international exhibitions, among them the V and VI editions of the World Body Art Encounter in Caracas, Venezuela, as well as in the Continua Gallery, on the occasion of the 300 days of Arte Continua.

In his opinion, one of his most outstanding projects is "El secreto de las paredes", the title of a work in progress carried out in the Atenas de Cuba (province of Matanzas). These are works of body art with body camouflage and interaction in the public spaces of the city, whose concept is based on caring for architecture and nature, and the struggle for the non-deterioration of a city with unique heritage values in the country.

His series of body camouflage painting almost always continue in time as a large album something new can appear, while in "Secretos de una ciudad" he adds new sites inside and outside the city of Matanzas.

The body is a temple... the temple is the artIn "Avitralados", Plasencia plays with colors in a sort of stained-glass window that is characteristic of the island's architecture and, at the same time, with aesthetics referring to our painting, styles, manners and elements that come together in an extremely Cuban dish.

Last year, the artist participated in the XIV edition of the Havana Biennial with his personal project "Casa cuerpo", whose objective is to highlight and publicly show the values of body art both in Matanzas and in the rest of the largest of the Antilles.

The intention of his work is to raise awareness among people and authorities about the importance of public spaces. The discourse is constructed through the body. The body is presented as the stage where our spirit dwells, just as each part of the city treasures its essence and its history. The models merge and capture the soul of each place where the images are recreated, with real sensitivity and a sense of belonging.

This work is possible thanks to the professional collaboration with the models of the body art company Jokerstudio Cuba, which is also in charge of recording the whole process where the body is a temple and the temple is the work.
