Guyana signs agreement with US company on refined fuels

The government of Guyana is seeking to improve energy security today, which is why it has reached an agreement with the US company Curlew Midstream. This agreement on refined fuels could also serve northern Brazil and the region in general, said the digital newspaper Stabroek News.

The president of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, emphasized the importance of infrastructure development to boost national growth, as this initiative is aligned with Guyana's broader energy expansion plans. The nation hopes to have an oil refinery capable of processing 30 thousand barrels, and in the future to have a similar facility in conjunction with the Dominican Republic for 50 thousand barrels.

In fact, there is already a Memorandum of Understanding with Santo Domingo. The Curlew Midstream project involves the construction of a state-of-the-art local fuel storage facility capable of holding 750,000 barrels of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and heavy fuel oil; the source detailed.

Once operational, the enclave is expected to supply 100 percent of Guyana's domestic refined fuel needs while also allowing for exports to countries in the Caribbean Community. This agreement will facilitate the import of refined fuels from the United States for local storage and distribution. The agreement will lead to price-advantaged trade that could significantly reduce wholesale and retail fuel prices in Guyana.
