Construction of a Guyana and Barbados terminal that will be able to store more than 40 containers of food will begin soon, according to information released today in Georgetown.
The announcement, published by the Caricom Today website, quotes Guyana#39;s Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, who said that progress is already being made on the project, as technical officers are on the ground, with most of the preliminary work almost done.
The area visited has already been identified and some issues in the plan have been changed.
The preparation is already in place, so it is a matter of time before the physical work for the terminal begins, the minister assured.
The facility will also be equipped with a processing and packaging plant and includes cold storage warehouses for shellfish, other plants, a 20 million gallon reservoir and land for crop production, he explained.
At the beginning of last year, both parties expressed their commitment to eliminate all barriers that hinder bilateral trade, which is related to the decision of the heads of government of the Caribbean Community to adopt the necessary measures to reduce the expenses of food imports from the region by 25 percent, by 2025.
