Guyana: New Ferry Will Boost Essequibo Development

The government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana will invest in the start-up of an additional ferry to serve the Essequibo-Parika route with a view to developing that region and increasing tourism, the local press announced.

guyana-new-Ferry-02.jpgThe information was released by President Dr. Irfaan Ali during his visit this week to Mashabo Village, on the Essequibo coast, Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam) and, regarding this, he said he was proud of the tourism product they are building there and that their government will make the necessary investments to ensure that tourism in the town and by extension in Essequibo County is fully supported.

This, he added, is a way to support this development to increase the number of trips between Parika and Essequibo. “During the Easter holidays, many businesses throughout the Essequibo called and told me they couldn't get on the boat.

People who came to spend a weekend could not get on the boat because there was not enough space available. That's why we have to fix it. This is how these investments are linked to their community,” explained the president. He later announced that starting in September, a group of people from the Joint Services will visit the village to train the village youth in tourism care.

The government will also support the production of eggs, with the delivery of laying hens and the development of 10 acres of land for the cultivation of pineapples, to which, above all, the youth of the community will be linked.

“We work day after day to give everyone a better opportunity in life, to improve their circumstances. To give these young children the same opportunity that any young child on the coast will have, to give them the same opportunity for education that any other child on the coast will have,” he meant.
