Guyana will prioritize financial education initiatives in 2025, focusing on sustainable income generation, announced the president of that nation, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali.
The information was released by the Guyanese president during the opening ceremony of GuyExpo 2024, last Thursday, at the Sophia National Exhibition Center, in Greater Georgetown, when he also pointed out the importance of understanding the distinction between resource distribution and wealth creation.
He went on to say that the distribution of cash grants helps citizens and the government plans to continue supporting them to generate lasting wealth. “We have to invest in financial education. We have to teach communities and families how to combine their individual capital; use that individual capital as collective wealth to generate and create new income,” he said.
To this end, Guyanese authorities aim to empower citizens to take advantage of the opportunities in a rapidly modernizing economy while ensuring a sustainable financial future for generations to come.
GuyExpo2024, which opened its doors this Thursday and will end on the 17th, has the participation of 283 exhibitors. The first edition of the fair took place in 1995 with the aim of showcasing the country's culture and economic potential. Considered the oldest show in the Caribbean region, GuyExpo was held between 2004 and 2016 as an exhibition of locally produced goods and services.
Since last year, GuyExpo became an annual event coordinated by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, in which attendants, both local and regional business representatives, have the opportunity to establish exchanges, negotiate with international companies and show their skills.
