Guyana satisfied with results of CARICOM-Saudi Arabia Summit

The recent summit meeting between CARICOM and Saudi Arabia, held in Riyadh, had successful results, since the Arab country has fully understood the value of the region as an important strategic and development partner to face many of the challenges that face the world today, considered Guyanese President Dr. Irfaan Ali.

In a press conference held last weekend in Georgetown, the president Guyanese explained that at the end of the summit last Thursday, a joint declaration was signed in which the leaders of both countries committed to improving bilateral relations to greater cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, trade and investments, among others. The summit has given rise to a series of proposed actions that will deepen our relationship as CARICOM in establishing our collective presence in Saudi Arabia and the establishment of its presence in the region, i.e. presence "physics," he meant.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia made available not only all its technical resources and ministerial, but also the resources and financing of the private sector. Reserve 2,500 million dollars for the development of the region and approve a series of projects in different countries,” said the president. This is the time not only for Guyana, but also the Caribbean region to seek non-traditional partners  in pursuit of their development objectives and aspirations, he considered. Among the debates, the president revealed, was also the establishment of a facility of 25 million dollars to accelerate food production that includes the possibility to establish a hydroponic zone for the region.

As for his country, Ali noted that he is already benefiting from his relations with Saudi Arabia, through the loan agreement of 150 million dollars signed last May with the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) to finance two projects: one of construction works, infrastructure development for the housing sector and the second for the construction of the Wismar Bridge.
