The airline SkyCana, based in the Dominican Republic, will link Guyana and Canada as of June 1st, according to an official announcement
On his Facebook page, Guyanese President Dr. Irfaan Ali announced the news, while thanking SkyCana's executive director, Frank Díaz González, for releasing the information.
The notification of the start of the flights was released after a meeting between President Ali and Mr. González in the office of the Guyanese president. SkyCana intends to establish three weekly frequencies to Canada and the flights would connect via the Dominican Republic.
The airline based at Las Américas international airport in Santo Domingo has a fleet of 10 planes, with multiple daily flights from Punta Cana, which includes 3- AIRBUS A321;4- AIRBUS A320;1- AIRBUS A330-300 and 2- AIRBUS A330-200.
On the other hand, it was learned that since 2021, the Surinamese airline FlyAllWays received authorization to fly directly from Guyana to Canada, but flights have not yet started.
According to the Guyanese Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, the Surinamese airline received authorization to start the trips long before SkyCana but, he added, that company has not said the reason why the flights have not started.
