International classical dance turned its eyes on Havana from October 28 to November 7 2016, at the 38th edition of Havana’s ‘Alicia Alonso’ Ballet Festival. Prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso once again invited artists from several countries to join the leading figures and dance corps of Cuba’s National Ballet to take on great classics such as Swan Lake, Giselle and Don Quixote. Stars of the stature of Aurélie Dupont (étoile and artistic director of the Paris Opera Ballet), María Kochetkova (San Francisco Ballet), Joaquín de Luz and Ashley Bouder (New York City Ballet), Osiel Gouneo (Munich Ballet) and Joel Carreño (Den Norske Opera and Ballet) took part.

Cubaplus Magazine Sixth Anniversary

The sixth anniversary celebration of Cubaplus magazine, held in Havana, was a feast of culture and fashion that opened with an art exhibit. Created with the goal of sharing all of the wonders of Cuba with the world, and of establishing the country as one of the Caribbean's best tourist destinations, Cubaplus has achieved this through its originality and aesthetic creativity, present since the start. The event, which was held at the historic Hotel Nacional de Cuba, was attended by many friends, including some 20 Cuban artists whose work has been featured in our pages. Twenty-six pieces by painters and photographers were on display in the hotel's Vedado Hall during the celebration.

The 2011 Hotel Colony’s International Underwater Photography competition on the Isle of Youth saw representatives from 15 nations, including Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Germany, Canada, Russia, Uruguay, Chile, Italy, Serbia, England, Sweden, Spain and Cuba. It was won by Chilean Fernando Olivares, who obtained first place in both the Macro and Fish categories.
